Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
Week 1 - Trinity
- Explain the difference between nature and person,
- Explain "perichoresis" and it’s importance for
the Theology of the Body,
- Explain what defines a person and how persons differ from
every other created thing,
Week 2 – Creation/Fall
- Describe the differences between the divine Persons, angelic
persons and human persons,
- Discuss "original solitude" and describe its implications
for Adam,
- Describe the five basic relationships established by God
in man’s creation,
- Describe exactly how the different aspects of these five
relationships were ruptured by the Fall,
Week 3 – Incarnation/Sacraments
- Explain how the Incarnation healed the effects of the Fall,
- Describe the interaction between Jesus’ human nature and
divine nature,
- Explain why John the Baptist called Jesus “the Bridegroom,”
- Describe the medicinal instruments through which the Incarnation
heals the effects of the Fall,
- Explain why marriage is the form of the sacramental life,
- Explain why the Eucharist is the heart of the sacramental
life,
- Explain the place of the other five sacraments within the
Bridegroom-Bride relationship,
Week 4 – Married Life
- Explain how the sacraments intertwine to form the spousal
relationship,
- Explain what contraception does to the spousal relationship,
- Explain the relationship between fertility, contraception,
creation and the Fall,
Week 5 – Celibacy
- Explain the connection between married life and celibacy,
- Explain why St. Paul calls celibacy “the higher way,”
- Explain why the Blessed Virgin Mary and Joseph were celibate
in their marriage,
- Explain the importance of the Eucharist to the celibate
life.
Week 6 – Family Life
- Explain why the family is called the “domestic Church,”
- Explain the relationship between bishop and parents and
between parents and children,
- Explain the connection between the God, author of life,
and the family, sanctuary of life.
